Professional work

The process of examination

During the course of the diagnostic procedure of children, as a first step, the psychologist or psychiatrist meets the parents or the family. When needed, a neuropsychologist examines the child as well. If it occurs that an expert opinion of a special needs teacher (SEN teacher) or logopedist is required, we involve the professionals of “Napraforgóház” in the process.

In case of adolescent patients, the procedure differs from children’s therapy.

The clinician professional often works with the adolescent alone, and the communication with the parents happens through sittings where both the parents and the adolescent are present. In these cases, the first interview could happen with the collective attendance of the parents and the adolescent or – if it is requested by the adolescent and approved by the parents – only with the attendance of the patient.

When required, we send an anamnestic paper to the patient before the first meeting, which should be filled out and sent to us via e-mail. If the patient is in possession of any former examination results, please take those to the first meeting as well! After the phase of the differential diagnosis (which usually means 3-5 occasions after the first interview) we determine which therapy we would suggest for the child. The family receives feedback about these recommendations, even in written form if that is what they prefer.

The way of a complex assessment

Parental interview with a psychiatrist or clinical psychologist (with a review of the anamnesis and previous documentation) - HUF 42,000

Psychological tests - 3 times, HUF 27,000/time

Neuropsychological examinations - 3 sessions, HUF 29,000/session (2 of these sessions are usually combined).

For children under the age of 8, we also carry out neuropsychological and special pedagogy examinations, in 90 minutes each (50,000 + 40,000 HUF).

Psychiatric examinations - usually 3 sessions, HUF 42,000/session (It is possible that the 3rd is a special examination - ADOS -, it has a separate price: HUF 50,000)

Group diagnosis - 2 times, HUF 15,000/time (we organize this every 2 months for each age group mostly in Hungarian)

Feedback session for parents - usually with one or two specialists (27,000-50,000 HUF)

In the case of certain problems, the assessment at Murmo is only carried out with a complex examination (in the case of ASD, ADHD, comorbid symptoms). Before committing to the process, it is important for families to consider the prices, which is why we highlight them here as well.

Currently, our foundation cannot provide support for the diagnostic phase. The prices include the writing of a detailed expert opinion, the consultation of colleagues, participation in supervision, the formulation of proposals and, if possible, the organization of care within the system. If our team does not provide the proposed form of care, we cannot undertake the organization of the rest.

Examination sessions last 50 minutes, examinations are usually available in the morning. There may be deviations from the above in any direction - more or fewer tests - if our specialists consider it during the process. We also ask for a pedagogical opinion from the kindergarten or school.

Like all doctors in Hungary, child psychiatrists are also legally obliged to write documentation about their child in the EESZT, which also includes a diagnosis or at least a guideline diagnosis. This requires your child's personal data (date of birth, TAJ number). The documentation is usually a few summary sentences, a description of the condition from a medical point of view and a diagnosis/direction diagnosis. If you do not want this appearance to be visible to other doctors and health professionals (according to these regulations, it is only visible to psychiatrists and child psychiatrists, not to other doctors and schools), the two parents can make a statement restricting access together with the necessary IDs (parental identity card and residential address, child's birth certificate) in the government window of the place of residence.

School entrance examination
A primary school entrance examination can be carried out on the request of the parents or the nursery school teacher working with the child. It is executed by the appointed institution, that is, the Pedagogical Special Service of the place of residence. The Service provides expert advice in which it declares the recommendation related to the school entrance of the child.

For those families who have a therapeutic relationship with our establishment we can provide help in the following way: we examine the cognitive abilities of the child in to determine if he or she is mature enough to enter school. Depending on the results, we may suggest a school entrance examination and a development therapy of cognitive abilities if we find that the child is lagging behind in his or her level of development compared to his or her peers.

Team-work and confidentiality

We consider team-work particularly important which defines our approach fundamentally. The experts of different fields elevate problem-solving to higher and higher levels by bringing different points of view to the conversation. That is why we think it is essential that our co-operating experts stay in a close and effective working relationship and consult regularly for the good of their patients. To ensure the free flow of information within our team, we here at MURMO work with extended confidentiality.

The most common forms of our work

Parent consultation

A consultation with the parent(s) about difficulties regarding the child or the family, without bringing the child into a therapeutic situation. We try to help and guide the parents through parenting issues, situations of uncertainty or any other obstacles they might face.

Parent guidance

During the course of the therapy with the child, we provide an opportunity for parents to pose their questions and gain feedback regarding the work with the child.

Child psychodiagnostics

Establishing holistic diagnostics requires a minimum of 5 sessions, depending on how much the problematic situation and the history of the child had already been defined during the first 1-2 sittings. We establish a connection with the child while assessing his or her condition, and we also carry out a psychological examination. At the end of the process we decide whether a therapy is necessary and if so, in what form. A group session may also take place in the diagnostic process, at which two professionals are present besides the children. This provides an opportunity for us to see the child in a group situation. These diagnostic groups are held once each month, one for each age group.

Child and adolescent psychotherapy

When a therapy is necessary, we choose means and methods considering the child’s age in order to earn the child’s/adolescent’s trust so that we can help her figure out his or her problems. In the case of little children, the main method is mostly playing, while with adolescents conversations also come to the forefront.

Adult psychodiagnostics

This service is for adults who face any kind of problem or difficulty and feel stuck in a life situation. The psychodiagnostics include a first interview and the filling of various psychological tests which help us jointly determinate whether a therapy is needed to solve the individual’s problem.

Adult therapy

Depending on the person and the issue we use cognitive behavioural therapy and/or psychoanalytically orientated therapy. In case of certain problems (e.g.: issues related to addiction, eating-disorders, relationship difficulties), involving the family is inevitable therefore we work with relatives, couples and families within the framework of counselling.

Family therapy

The individual’s difficulties are often easier to understand and treat when he or she attends with his or her family, so the family’s structure, it’s inner relations, interactions and communication patterns are more recognisable and easier to shape. Our therapists provide help based on the resources of the family to achieve balance in the family, erase the dysfunctional patterns and generate new ways of relations and behaviour that strengthen the mental health of the family members.

Special consultation

In some life situations obsticles may arise, however they are not necessairly cause for long-term therapy. A psychologically healthy person may wish to receive help in strengthening their decision-making ability, recognizing and functioning well their life roles, managing change in life, in effectively resolving crises or problem situations, and in relieving tension. In some crisis situations, such as r relationship problems, lifestyle obstruction, having difficulties in the workplace and career choice or being in rehabilitation period, consultation is suggested.  The consultancy can provide help for indvidual and for different groups as well.

Neuropsychological examination

In close cooperation with neurology, clinical neuropsychology engages in the examination and therapy of the congenital or acquired dysfunctions of cognitive abilities (perception, attention, executive functions, memory, language skills, writing, reading and counting).  We work with children of age 6 months up to 18 years and their families.
